If you’re wanting to stay on this site and visit a while, please allow me the next few paragraphs to “vent” and share with you a piece of my heart and passion for Wellness in Lakeland.

“Soapbox Please!”

“Polk County holds the dubious title of:

with 30.4% of its adults registering as obese on the body mass index, according to the latest information from the Centers for Disease Control.  Our kids are among the fattest in the state.

This is unacceptable.

For years, local physicians have been fretting over the escalation in childhood and adult obesity and all of the related, so-called chronic degenerative diseases that accompany this condition, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers and diabetes.

It’s time for a change.

Strategic Wellness is calling for a coalition of representatives from our health and wellness oriented services and businesses in our community to do something about this crisis.

Is this you?   What is your business or service doing to reverse this alarming trend?  Let’s join forces to create a greater impact.

We all know our fitness, nutritional and lifestyle habits need to change.  There is no more study needed to identify the problem:   We eat too much of the wrong foods and lead a sedentary life.

We need a simple, engaging solution to present an answer to the citizens of our community.  We need to develop a tribe of people who are living and supporting one another in a healthy, wellness oriented lifestyle.  Why does being healthy have to go against the mainstream?

Lean Out Lakeland has been strategically developed to provide an answer.

With the help of our sponsors, we are presenting the inaugural year of a city wide contest that includes all of the essential components of Wellness into one affordable and do-able, engagingly fun competition beginning January 18, 2010.

This first year we will assist 100 clients in learning to implement a nutrient dense, low glycemic eating style and moderate, but intense exercise approach that will burn fat, feed muscle and turn the tide on the epidemics of chronic disease afflicting our neighbors.  We will integrate the essential ‘psychology of change’ principles, enabling our recruits to understand the “why” behind troublesome behaviors.

In 2011, Strategic Wellness will offer this program to the masses through it’s non-profit corporate entity and underwrite the expense through the sponsors and donations of Lakeland supporters.  Fitness facilities, restaurants, private businesses, health-oriented individuals  and corporations will work together towards achieving the common goal of:
